Le Morne Cultural Landscape — UNESCO
UNESCO cultural landscape commemorating the enslaved people who took refuge on Le Morne's cliffs — a symbol of freedom.
Tamarin Bay is the spiritual home of surfing in Mauritius, with a left-hand point break that ranks among the best waves in the Indian Ocean when the south-westerly swells arrive between May and September. The wave was put on the world surf map by a cult 1970s film and continues to attract visiting surfers alongside the resident expat surf community. Board hire, surf lessons for beginners, and guided surf trips to outer breaks are available from operators in the village. The town itself has a laid-back surf culture with board shapers, yoga studios, and surf-themed cafés.
