Le Morne Cultural Landscape — UNESCO
UNESCO cultural landscape commemorating the enslaved people who took refuge on Le Morne's cliffs — a symbol of freedom.
The Blue Penny Museum on the Caudan Waterfront houses the world's most complete collection of Mauritian stamps, including the legendary Blue Penny and Red Penny issues of 1847 — among the rarest and most valuable stamps in philatelic history. The museum traces the complete history of Mauritius through artefacts, documents, maps, and multimedia exhibitions covering Creole culture, the slave trade, the colonial period, and independence. The two original 1847 stamps are displayed under special lighting that limits exposure time to preserve the inks. An essential stop for history enthusiasts visiting the capital.
