The Mauritius tax system
🧾 Tax for expats and residents
If you spend more than 183 days in Mauritius in a tax year (July–June), you become tax resident and are liable to Mauritius income tax on worldwide income at 15%. Mauritius has Double Taxation Agreements with most countries expats arrive from, which typically prevent double taxation.
Mauritius filing deadlines: personal income tax returns are due by 31 March (for the previous tax year ending 30 June). A local accountant familiar with your home country tax position is strongly recommended for your first year.
🏢 Tax for businesses
Mauritius is a recognised international financial centre. Companies incorporated and managed in Mauritius pay corporate tax at 15% on net income. No withholding tax on dividends, no capital gains tax, and access to the treaty network make it an attractive holding company jurisdiction.
The Financial Services Commission (FSC) regulates offshore and financial business. For GBC structures, you need an FSC-licensed management company — most of the large Mauritius accountancy firms hold this licence.
