About

Le Morne Brabant and its surrounding peninsula hold UNESCO World Heritage status as a cultural landscape — a symbol of the resistance of enslaved people who used the mountain as their last refuge in the early 19th century. The Le Morne Cultural Landscape Foundation manages a small heritage centre at the foot of the mountain where the history of Maroon resistance and freedom is told through exhibits, oral testimonies, and documentation. The site is both historically significant and extraordinarily beautiful, with the basalt monolith rising from a peninsula of white sand and turquoise water.
