Le Morne Cultural Landscape — UNESCO
UNESCO cultural landscape commemorating the enslaved people who took refuge on Le Morne's cliffs — a symbol of freedom.
Housed in a beautifully restored 19th-century sugar mill at the Beau Plan estate in Pamplemousses, L'Aventure du Sucre is Mauritius's most informative and beautifully presented museum, telling the complete story of sugar cane from its origins in New Guinea through the slave trade, the indentured labour era, and the transformation of Mauritius into one of the world's great sugar producers. Interactive displays, original machinery, and an extraordinary gift shop featuring over 40 estate rums from across the island make it one of the most rewarding half-days on the island.
