Light Rail
Metro Express
Mauritius's modern light rail — 19 stations connecting Port Louis to Curepipe in under an hour. Clean, air-conditioned, and completely traffic-free.
About the Metro Express
The Metro Express opened in 2019 and is the first light rail system in the Indian Ocean islands. It runs north–south through the centre of Mauritius, linking the capital Port Louis with the central plateau town of Curepipe via the major towns of Rose Hill, Quatre Bornes, and Ébène.
For locals, the Metro Express transformed the daily Port Louis commute — journeys that took 45 minutes to an hour by road now take 22 minutes by train, regardless of traffic. For visitors, it offers a clean, affordable, and genuinely interesting way to experience the real urban Mauritius rather than just the resort coast.
Ébène Cybercity — the island's modern business district with its glass towers and international companies — is served directly by the metro. Rose Hill and Quatre Bornes are both good day-trip destinations with markets, restaurants, and a more authentic local atmosphere than the tourist north.
