Getting To & From the Airport
Uber
RecommendedUber operates at SSR Airport — open the app on arrival and request a ride as normal. Prices are shown upfront. Most reliable and transparent option. Wait times are typically 5–15 minutes.
Official Airport Taxis
Fixed priceFixed-price taxi desk inside arrivals hall (before exit). Zone-based pricing is posted on the board — no negotiation required. More expensive than Uber but convenient for arrivals unfamiliar with the island.
Pre-booked Hotel Transfer
Most convenientMost hotels offer airport collection — book in advance, usually at a premium over taxis and Uber. Your driver will meet you in arrivals with a name board. Best option for late-night arrivals.
Shared Shuttle
Budget optionSeveral operators run shared shuttle services to the major tourist areas at lower cost than private taxis. Requires waiting for the shuttle to fill, so can add 30–60 minutes. Best for budget travellers not in a hurry.
Car Hire
From MUR 800/dayAll major car hire operators have desks in arrivals. Pre-book for the best rates — walk-up prices are significantly higher. Driving from the airport is straightforward: the A10 motorway heads north quickly.
Bus
CheapestPublic buses stop outside arrivals. Very cheap (MUR 30–60) but slow and infrequent. Route 198 goes to Mahebourg. For further destinations, you'll need to change in Curepipe or Mahebourg. Not practical with large luggage.
Tip: Uber is now the easiest option for most travellers — download the app before you travel. For the official taxi desk, rates are fixed and posted on a board in arrivals. Never pay more than the posted rate.
