Clinique du Nord

Clinique du Nord is the primary private medical facility for the north of the island and the hospital that most of Grand Baie's expatriate community, hotel workers, and north-coast residents rely on for private care. Its location near Baie du Tombeau, on the northern edge of Port Louis, makes it accessible from the Grand Baie resort zone in around 25 minutes and from the central plateau in a similar time. For the thousands of hotel employees, foreign workers, and expats based in the north, it fills an important gap between the public SSR National Hospital in Pamplemousses and the major private facilities in the central plateau.

The hospital provides 24-hour emergency care, a maternity and paediatric ward, general surgery, and a broad outpatient specialist programme covering internal medicine, cardiology, orthopaedics, gynaecology, and ophthalmology. The maternity unit is busy — the north coast has a large and growing residential population — and the team is experienced with both elective caesarean sections and complex vaginal deliveries. The neonatal unit handles healthy and mildly premature newborns.

For tourists and short-term visitors in the northern resort zone, Clinique du Nord is the most practical choice for non-life-threatening emergencies: a sports injury from kitesurfing, a waterborne illness, a child's high fever, or a minor laceration requiring closure. The emergency triage team is experienced with international patients and the administration desk handles the insurance paperwork for most major European and international providers. English and French are spoken throughout.
