Aegle Cancer Hospital in Rose Belle represents a significant development in Mauritian healthcare: the island's first dedicated private oncology centre, established to reduce the need for patients to travel to South Africa, India, or France for cancer diagnosis and treatment. Before Aegle opened, oncology patients with private insurance faced a difficult choice between the public cancer units at Victoria and Jeetoo hospitals and the cost and disruption of offshore treatment. Aegle has changed this calculation for a growing proportion of Mauritian cancer patients.

The centre is built around a multi-disciplinary tumour board model: medical oncologists, surgical oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, and pathologists review each case collectively and agree on a treatment plan before the first intervention. Chemotherapy suites — eight private infusion bays and a day oncology unit — handle haematological and solid tumour protocols. The pharmacy compounds chemotherapy agents on-site, which ensures freshness and allows personalised dosing. Targeted therapy and immunotherapy protocols are available for an expanding range of cancer types including breast, lung, colorectal, and lymphoma.

Surgical oncology covers breast surgery, colonic resection, hepatobiliary surgery, and thyroidectomy with oncoplastic techniques. Pathology and molecular testing — including BRCA mutation testing and HER2 amplification — are conducted through a partnership with international reference laboratories, with results typically in 7–14 days. The hospital's social work and palliative care teams are available to all patients and their families from the point of diagnosis.
