Curepipe Fire Station
About Curepipe Fire Station
The Curepipe Fire Station is one of the principal emergency response facilities serving the central plateau of Mauritius, the most densely populated inland region of the island. Operated under the Mauritius Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS), the station covers Curepipe, Vacoas-Phoenix, Rose Hill, and surrounding districts, responding to structural fires, road traffic accidents, chemical incidents, and emergency situations requiring fire service resources.
Curepipe is the largest city on the central plateau, situated at approximately 550 metres above sea level in the volcanic interior of the island. The cooler, frequently overcast climate and the high concentration of residential, commercial, and light industrial premises generate a varied range of call types throughout the year. The proximity of the Black River Gorges National Park — Mauritius's largest forested reserve — brings periodic vegetation fire incidents, particularly during the drier July-to-October period when trade winds increase risk in the upland forests.
The Mauritius Fire and Rescue Service operates under the Ministry of Public Infrastructure and Disaster Risk Management. All uniformed firefighters are full-time civil servants trained to the national service standard, with specialist teams covering hazardous materials response, urban search and rescue, and wildland fire management. Curepipe station maintains pumping appliances, an aerial platform vehicle for high-rise and commercial incidents, and light rescue vehicles to meet the district's diverse operational needs.
Emergency services in Mauritius are reached by dialling 115 for fire and rescue assistance. The MFRS also delivers community fire safety education in schools and public buildings, conducts periodic emergency drills, and participates in island-wide disaster preparedness exercises coordinated by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Centre.
Businesses and property owners in the Curepipe district are encouraged to contact the fire station's community safety team for guidance on fire risk assessments, emergency exit compliance, portable extinguisher requirements, and workplace fire safety training. Commercial premises inspections are a routine part of the MFRS mandate and support fire safety standards across the central plateau.
