Bagatelle Mall, the largest shopping centre in Mauritius, houses a food court that has become one of the most reliably practical dining options for residents of the central plateau who want variety, speed, and air conditioning. At first glance it's unremarkable — the usual food court format with branded counters surrounding a shared seating area. But look closer and the selection is unusually good for a mall environment. Lolo's Dholl Puri stall has been in the food court since opening and serves what many locals consider the best dholl puri outside of a home kitchen: thick, freshly rolled puri stuffed with split pea and topped with rougaille and pickled vegetables from jars that run out by 2pm. The sushi counter uses Mauritian-caught tuna and is more careful with its rice than most dedicated restaurants. The Chinese noodle bar serves a creditable bami goreng and a wonton soup that draws office workers from the surrounding commercial zone. Several Mauritian fast-food concepts — Chilli, Pizza Hut, and local chain Krispy Chicken — complete the offering. Bagatelle food court is not a destination meal; it's a practical, tasty, and affordable survey of the island's diverse food culture in a comfortable setting that works particularly well for families with children or groups with divergent tastes.
