Ile aux Cerfs Golf Club

The Île aux Cerfs Golf Club is one of the most extraordinary golf settings in the world — an 18-hole championship course designed by Bernhard Langer on a 90-hectare island off the east coast of Mauritius, where the Indian Ocean is visible from almost every hole.

The course opened in 2003 and immediately established itself as one of the Indian Ocean's premier golf experiences. The combination of Langer's design — strategic, technically demanding, but playable for a wide range of handicaps — with the island setting creates something genuinely unlike any course elsewhere in the region. Water hazards are not artificial; they are the actual lagoon, visible below on several clifftop holes.

The layout rewards course management over raw power. Several par-4s play along cliff edges where the wind off the Indian Ocean influences shot shape significantly; the back nine opens up to wider fairways but introduces more water. The course plays 6,086 metres from the championship tees and offers multiple tee positions for different handicap levels.

The clubhouse sits on a plateau with panoramic views over both the east coast lagoon and the open ocean. Club hire, shoe hire, and cart hire are all available. Caddy service is strongly recommended for first-time visitors — the caddies know every break on every green and are worth their fee.

Access is by speedboat from Trou d'Eau Douce (5 minutes) or by helicopter from any of the major hotels. Tee times must be booked in advance; weekday mornings offer the best availability and the best light. Non-residents are welcome. Dress code: collared shirts required, no denim.
