About diving here
One of the world’s great diving destinations
Mauritius sits within one of the world’s great diving destinations. The island is surrounded by a coral reef protecting a vast lagoon, and beyond the reef lie dramatic underwater walls, caves, wrecks, and pelagic encounters. Water temperature stays between 23–28°C year-round — no drysuit needed.
Must-dive locations
Best dive sites in Mauritius
Stella Maru wreck
A Japanese cargo vessel sunk in the 1970s, now covered in coral. Excellent macro photography.
Shark Pit
Regular nurse shark sightings at this reef site. Safe, stunning, and consistently excellent.
Cathedral Cave
Dramatic underwater cave formation with rays of light. One of the most photographed sites in Mauritius.
Île aux Bénitiers

Beautiful coral garden named for its Zen-like formations. Shallow enough for snorkellers too.
What You’ll See
Nurse sharks, eagle rays, hawksbill turtles, moray eels, lionfish, octopus, reef sharks, and dolphins are regularly encountered. Whale sharks are occasionally seen. Humpback whales pass through between July and September — an extraordinary encounter from a boat.
Certification & Courses
PADI, SSI, and CMAS courses available at most dive centres.
Night Diving & Snorkelling
Night diving is available at many sites — sleeping turtles, hunting octopus, and bioluminescence make for magical dives. Even non-divers can explore the reef: Blue Bay Marine Park and Trou aux Biches have exceptional snorkelling directly from shore.
Dive Season
Diving is possible year-round in Mauritius. Best conditions run from May to November during the dry season when seas are calmer and visibility peaks at 30m. December to April sees occasional rough weather and cyclone risk but diving continues at protected sites.
