The Black River Gorges National Park — Mauritius' largest protected area at 6,574 hectares — is the focal point for hiking and wildlife. Weather in the mountains can change quickly — light rain gear is advisable for morning activities. Cyclone-risk months are December–March; all outdoor activities are suspended during cyclone warnings.
