Can I drive in Mauritius on my foreign driving licence?
Direct Answer
Yes — most foreign licences are valid for the first 12 months of residence. After that you must exchange for a Mauritius licence at the NTA.
Driving in Mauritius on a foreign licence
Foreign licences from most countries are valid for the first 12 months of residence. An International Driving Permit (IDP) is recommended.
Exchange after 12 months
Visit the National Transport Authority (NTA) in Port Louis with: original foreign licence, Mauritius residence card, passport, two passport photos, and ~MUR 500 fee.
No driving test required for licences from recognised countries (EU, UK, South Africa, Australia). Processing: 2–4 weeks.
