GENERAL INFO
Some general facts which are good to know when considering which school to send your children to in Mauritius:

Government run school are free of charge and follow the English Curriculum, from the age of 5, however there is lots of French and Creole spoken in the classroom

Schooling is compulsory up to the age of 16

Generally English and International school term time starts in Jan and ends in Nov/Dec

French school terms start Sept and end in June/July

Private school might have long waiting lists so get an early start

International schools follow IGCSE's and The International Baccalaureate

Most schools have a school uniform, but French schools usual allow normal day to day clothes

Try to chose a school close to home as there is lots of traffic and congestion around schools

LIGHT HOUSE INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL
Light House school has Preprimary, Primary and Secondary learning facilities, catering from ages 4 to 18 years. Light House is an English-medium co-educational school delivering education based off the principles of Christian Education. The school was founded in 2009 and follows both the Cambridge exam board and the Edexel exam board and offers IGCSES and ALevels. Exceptionally at Light House all school meals are included in the school fees.

Subjects generally on offer at Light House are English, Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Management, French, 20th Century History, Geography, Religious Studies, Accounting, Business Studies, Economics, Art and Design and Physical Education.

All students wear uniforms except reception. Transport can be organised for students and parents can contractually pay drivers directly. Primary and Secondary school hours are from 8:00 till 15:00.

TELFAIR
INTERNATIONAL
PRIMARY SCHOOL
The Telfair International Primary school is located in Tamarin on the West Coast of the island. It is an English co-education school and was established in 2007. They also have the 'Tiny Tots Daycare' for children ages 3-5.
They deliver the English curriculum to children ages 5-11 and are the main feeder to the senior school 'La Bocage' in Moka.

The core subjects offered are English, Maths and Science. The foundation subjects they offer are history, IT, geography, design and technology, music and singing, drama, French, art, physical education and dance, robotics and finally citizenship and personal social and health education.
​
A typical school day Mon-Thurs starts at 8:00am and finishes at 14:15PM but with after school clubs 15:15. On a Friday there is an early finish at 13:15PM.

LE BOCAGE INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL
An English, co-educational private school situated in Moka close to the centre of the island. The school takes children ages 11-19 and prepares then for their IGCSE and International Baccalaureate. The teaching language is English although the school is very culturally diverse with 85% Mauritius students many of which have lived overseas and 15% international students.

The course offered are International Baccalaureate (IB) middle years IGCSES, IB Diploma, IB career-related programme as well as specialised education plans for children needing extra support.
​
Last year 42% of La Bocage student achieve a distinction in their results and 46% achieved a merit.
​
Unfortunately the La Bocage website is partly under construction and quite hard to use so this was the only info I was able to gather.

INTERNATIONAL PREPERATORY SCHOOL
IPS is an English medium, co-educational, pre-primary school, teaching children ages 3-11 years old. The school encourages the cohesion children from diverse cultural backgrounds to prepare them to be global citizens.
​
After completing IPS many of the students head to Northfields International High School or La Bocage School.IPS is situated in the quaint little sugar cain village of Labordonnais in the North of the Island.
​
IPS accepts expatriate students at any time of the year and Mauritius resident students at the start of a new terms. The term times are as follows:

NORTHFIELDS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL
Founded in 2001 with only 9 pupils, Northfields now has over 600 pupils and covers 5000 square meters. Northfields caters for children from 18 moths to 18 years, with their pre-nursery, nursery, primary school, prep school, middle school and sixth form. The school follows the National Curriculum of England and Wales. The facilities include floodlit full size rugby and football fields, cricket nets and pitch, Netball courts and 25m swimming pool which incorporates an Olympic size water polo pool.

Prep & Middle School - Children ages 5-8 follow the IB Middle Years Programme which offers classes from the core subjects of English, French, Maths and Science, to History, Geography, ICT, DT, Drama, Art, Physical Education. and healthy and social studies.
IGCSE's - Ages 14-16, an internationally recognised certificated rewarded for 2 years studying a number of subjects (core subjects are English, Maths and French and students can choose between courses in Mathematics, Sciences, Humanities, Languages, Drama, IT, DT or Art.
Sixth Form - Ages 17-18, In 2021 Northfields stopped offering Cambridges AS/ALevel programme and now only offer the International Baccalaureate. Students must study one course from each of the following 6 categories, Language A (literature and/or language), Language B (language of acquisition) or a second Language A, Individuals and Societies, Experimental Sciences, Mathematics, Arts (or a subject from other groups).

WESTCOAST INTERNATIONAL
The West Coast International school has both a primary school and a secondary school with the secondary school being the only English-medium school on the West Coast. The school was founded in 2014 but has moved to their brand new state of the art location at Uniciti Flic en Flac.

West Coast is a green school taking into account and teaching children about the environments. The schools have a partnership with the Unicity Sports, Recreation and Aquatic Centre, giving students access to a 50m Olympic pool, tennis courts, football fields, rugby fields, running track and gym facilities for P.E classes and activities all in walking distance.

Form 1-3 - study The International Middle Year Curriculum (IMYC), an international minded concept focussed curriculum including subjects:,
Form 4-5 - the students study for their IGCSE's these are internationally recognised, external exams, set and marked by Cambridge, England and taken at the end of Form 5.
Form 6 - students study the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme
